Florida Arts Model School

The Marion County Center for the Arts at West Port High School is one of only two Florida high schools chosen this year as a comprehensive Florida Arts Model School by the Florida Alliance for Arts Education. The vision of FAAE is that every child in every school is given a well-rounded education that includes a comprehensive, sequential, high-quality program of arts instruction.

FAAE describes a Florida Arts Model School as one that offers “exemplary arts programs, strong arts integration programs, supportive instructional settings, outstanding community connections, or other factors that make them valuable examples.”

In applying for this designation, West Port High School’s arts coordinator and staff conducted a comprehensive self-assessment that was then evaluated by a committee of arts education professionals. After completing the application process, West Port High School’s art program opened their school for an all-day site visit from FAAE that included in-depth discussions with the arts administrators, instructors, students, and parents to glean a more in-depth understanding of the arts magnet at West Port High.

Florida Arts Model Schools are recognized for a three-year period. This award is the fourth time that the Marion County Center for the Arts at West Port High School has received this outstanding designation.
